Makongo, a young western lowland gorilla at GaiaZoo in the Netherlands, has formed an unlikely friendship with a group of playful black crested mangabeys, and their hilarious interactions had us laughing throughout our visit.
In this video, you'll watch Makongo wrestle, chase, tumble, and play with his energetic mangabey friends. From playful wrestling matches to mangabeys hitching rides on his back, these youngsters never seem to run out of ways to entertain themselves.
Makongo's life began with tragedy when he lost his mother, Tamidol, at just four months old. Thankfully, he was lovingly cared for by his grandmother, Dalila, along with support from other members of the gorilla troop. Today, this happy, energetic two-year-old is thriving.
